Myakka City, Fl. — A fatal collision took place on Tuesday evening close to the DeSoto/Manatee County boundary, leading to the death of one man and causing severe injuries to four others. This happened when one vehicle tried to overtake another on the road.

The Florida Highway Patrol shared that around 7:47 p.m. Tuesday, a sedan operated by a 45-year-old man from Okeechobee was moving east on State Road 70, close to County Line Road. Meanwhile, an SUV steered by a 50-year-old woman from Pinellas was on the westbound lane.

Attempting to overtake another vehicle traveling in the same direction, the sedan swerved into the westbound lane. This led to a direct collision between the sedan and the SUV.

The sedan’s driver sustained life-threatening injuries on-site and was later declared deceased upon reaching a nearby medical facility.

The SUV was carrying three passengers: a 66-year-old man from Fruitland Park and two women from St. Petersburg, aged 31 and 32. All the occupants, including the sedan driver, had their seat belts fastened during the mishap.

The incident is currently under examination by the authorities.
