PALMETTO, FL – Palmetto Police are currently investigating a hit-and-run incident that transpired on Sunday night at the intersection of 7th Street West and U.S. 41 North. The collision involved a truck that struck a motorcyclist and subsequently fled the scene, leaving a trail of tragedy behind.
According to authorities, the incident unfolded at approximately 10:15 p.m. when a truck was traveling northbound on U.S. 41. The driver of the truck made a left turn, heading west onto 7th Street West. However, in the process, the truck turned directly into the path of a motorcyclist who was traveling southbound on U.S. 41.
The collision resulted in a devastating impact, as the motorcycle struck the passenger side of the truck. Fortunately, the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time, according to officials.
Following the initial collision, the victim was forcibly ejected from the motorcycle. Tragically, their ordeal did not end there, as they were subsequently struck by two other vehicles that were traveling southbound. Shockingly, the driver of the truck, responsible for initiating the chain of events, did not stop to offer any assistance and fled the scene, leaving the victim in dire need.
Regrettably, the motorcyclist succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash. Fortunately, the two other drivers involved in the incident acted responsibly and stopped to seek help.
Authorities have provided a description of the truck involved in the hit-and-run, which is believed to be a dark-colored, late model Ford F150 crew cab. The vehicle is likely to have sustained damage to its passenger side.
