SARASOTA, FL – A 22-year-old Sarasota man is facing charges of DUI after allegedly causing a multi-vehicle crash on Friday morning, leading to the shutdown of Interstate 4 just east of the I-75 interchange.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), they received a distress call at 3:40 a.m. reporting a car heading east in the westbound lanes of I-4 near Seffner.

At 3:45 a.m., the vehicle driven by Arda Sengun collided with a westbound Mercedes sedan traveling in the inside lane, between County Road 579 and McIntosh Road.

Following the initial collision, a pickup traveling westbound in the center lane braked to avoid the accident but was subsequently struck from behind by a flat-bed truck. This collision caused the pickup to rotate onto the outside shoulder, where it collided with a parked tractor-trailer, as confirmed by the FHP.

Authorities have charged the Sarasota man with DUI in connection with the incident. The crash caused significant disruption and closure of the affected section of Interstate 4 as law enforcement officials worked to clear the scene and assess the situation.

The investigation into the sequence of events leading to the wrong-way crash is ongoing, and further details will be made available as the case progresses.
