Wrong-Way Collision with Semi-Truck Leads to DUI Arrest of Young Motorist in Sarasota

Sarasota, Fl – A Spring Hill man, just 21 years old, found himself under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence following a hazardous collision on Interstate 75 in Sarasota early on Sunday. The man reportedly drove his vehicle in the wrong direction and collided with a semi-truck.
Florida Highway Patrol reported that the individual, identified as Angel Eduardo Martinez, was apprehended following the accident, which took place close to mile marker 208 north of Bee Ridge Road, around 5 a.m. Sunday.
Martinez, according to the report, was driving his vehicle southbound in the northbound inside lane of I-75 when he hit the right rear of a semi-tanker trailer. The semi-truck, at the time of the accident, was heading north in the center northbound lane.
The driver of the semi-truck, a 35-year-old man from Ruskin, fortunately escaped the incident unharmed. Martinez, however, sustained minor injuries and was subsequently transported to Sarasota County Jail.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding this dangerous crash remains ongoing, as per the latest update from the Florida Highway Patrol.
